Oasis: Fully Integrated Composting System Set-Ups

Riverdale Farm Composting

Oasis

We’re begun promoting our integrated composting system set-ups this fall.

We help individuals, businesses and community groups with strategies to capitalize on their organic waste. By implementing pin-pointed processes, we ensure that their organic waste stream is going to the best possible use. As in a local lawn or garden.

Examples of small system set-ups are the various types of home composters that can be used seasonally, or year round, inside or out. There’s a indoor-outdoor worm composter called the Worm Factory that we sell. It takes about 10 minutes of work every two days. To harvest the finished product requires no turning, sifting, sorting, etc.

Very useful at

A) reducing the waste stream with no carbon miles involved.

B) creating ideal plant food for all of your needs.

The finished product from this composter and the larger mid-scale solutions will enrich your life by servicing your lawn, garden and farm needs naturally through recycling and re-using.

Mid-scale solutions display higher volume turnover, pricing and complexity. There is a system for all kinds of infrastructures and establishments. Restaurants, community centres, farms, garden centres, co-ops, schools, etc could all benefit from composting on site.

Recyling on site makes sense. Economically and environmentally.

Reusing on site makes sense too, but only if you have a place (plants) to use the compost.

thegreenerside helps our clients with strategies for productive gardens that combine the 3 essences of economy, ecology, and aesthetics. So, you begin to recycle your waste consciously, then you use it with a clear purpose and direction, to achieve tangible results such as food, medicine, or relaxation.

This is our new service called Oasis.

For the mid scale composter, it’s not just matter of buying or making the right composter.

Other relevant factors include pre-loading storage area, pre-loading blending, waste turnover time, storage-curing area, sifting technologies and so forth.

thegreenerside helps our clients navigate though the maze of organic options out there and we enjoy the process of discovering the ideal outcome of each situation.

and on my left, the greener side….
This clients’ property received a spring boost when we made raised edible garden beds.

To this raspberry batch we applied organic worm compost (SOS Perennial) and a special liquid blend called Actively Aerated Compost Tea (SOS Foliar). But only to one half…

As you can see one side of the raspberry batch is larger and more lush: the greener side…

on my left we applied organic worm compost and actively aerated compost tea 3 months before

Fall top dressing and over seeding

Fall top dressing and over seeding

It’s been a great fall for overseeding. Long and warm, I’ve been reseeding since September and I still have one property to finish.

thegreenerside approach to lawn care:

1) encourage implementation of low maintenance fescues

2) offer dwarf white clover as an alternative, to crowd out existing weeds, to build soil fertility and as a low water option

3) phase out lawns slowly or completely and reintroduce native perennial beds, or edible gardens, or orchards…

In terms of a multi year strategy, any of our work that is done on the lawn now, builds up the fertility for NOW AND LATER, so that if a client does want to make the switch over to another landscape, there is already a good basis in the ground. At that point several discerning questions can lead us and the client on to their next dreamscape: raised bed trellised vegetable beds, mulched medicinal perennial flowers beds, native fruit and nut orchard…

By the way, the fall is THE best time to top dress with compost, peat-less triple mix and especially, WORM COMPOST. I will post a comment on the advantages of worm compost soon as it truly is superior! The cool thing is you can all make this premium organic plant food from the scraps of your kitchen, in your house, odour and fly free!

Until next time…

Fall and winter gardening

Is there something you can do to help your garden over the winter?

Sure there is.

But the real juicy stuff, I can’t tell you here…

All I can say here is that there is way more potential for growth in the winter than most of you realize.

Happy Growing,

Chris
